BUDDY BASKETBALL SHOW: Two Barboursville Buddy Basketball teams entertained fans during the intermission of the Marshall University/Florida International University game last Saturday, Jan. 19. The 8-year-old boys’ team played the 9-year-old boys’ team with the 8-year-old team scoring the most points. Members of the 8-year-old team are Cole Paynter, Mason Bryant, Carson Stowers, Wyatt Wolfe, Alijah Owens, Jonathan Little, Carson Christian, and Wyatt Maynard. Coaches are Bryan Paynter and Brad Maynard. Nine-year-old team members are Brayden Mc Dowell, Hunter Workman, Liam Smith, Jack Courts, Joey Watts, Caleb Merritt, Justice Palmer and Owen Goad. The coach is Brian McDowell.

STUDENTS OF THE MONTH: Cabell Midland High School students selected as students of the month for January by the Rotary Club of Barboursville are Erin Enochs, senior; William Turman, junior; Audrey Smith, sophomore; and Max Nibert, freshman. The students were recognized at the Rotary Club’s weekly luncheon at Guyan Country Club on Wednesday, Jan. 16.

FIRST-PLACE CONGRATS: Congratulations to Brody Hammers, who brought home first-place and all-around gold medals when he competed recently in gymnastic tournaments. On Jan. 11-13 in Indianapolis and on Jan. 25-27 in Orlando, Florida, 10-year-old Brody won the first-place, all-around gold medals. The Level 6 boys’ team from Bozhi’s GymNest in Huntington received the third-place trophy. Not only is Brody a good gymnast, but he is also a good mathematician. He recently won second-place and third-place awards in the 2019 Cabell County Math Field Day. A fifth-grade student at Nichols Elementary, Brody is the son of Corky and Buffy Hammers and the grandson of Fred and Sunny Hammers, of Barboursville.

FREE DINNER: The Greater Barboursville Community Outreach will provide a free dinner on Saturday, Jan. 26, from 3 p.m. until 4:30 p.m. at the Barboursville Senior Center, 721 Central Ave. The menu is ham loaf, pasta salad, green beans, rolls, pies and beverages. COMEDY HOUR: The Barboursville Senior Center and the Barboursville Harvest Club offer a Comedy Hour Friday, Jan. 25, from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. Hot dogs and chips will be served; the audience is asked to bring beverages and desserts. For more information, call 304-736-5092.
