15th annual Aiken Bluegrass Festival will kick off next weekend

May 4, 2019

Aiken locals can expect to see the annual Aiken Bluegrass Festival – one of the biggest musical events in the county – return to the Western Carolina Fairgrounds next weekend.

The festival, which was created back in 2004 by Steve and Jeannie Groat, will feature a variety of local and traveling artists in its two-day performance lineup May 10-11.

According to festival staff, the camp grounds will open early at 2 p.m. to ticket holders on Thursday, May 9. Early music performances will take place on Thursday night.

Children under 12 receive free admission at the event and leashed pets are welcome. There will be a variety of new vendors and artists this year. Performances will take place on the campfire stage, Steve’s Hall and Aiken stage at the fairgrounds.

The festival also supports Great Oak Therapeutic Riding, a local nonprofit that promotes therapeutic horseback riding for children and adults with physical and mental challenges.

The festival grounds open at 2 p.m. on Friday, May 10.
