Teacher Gets Sick, Dies in Class

January 13, 1999

NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. (AP) _ A fifth-grade teacher became ill, dismissed her pupils, then collapsed and died in her classroom.

Just a week earlier, the pupils at Jefferson Elementary School also lost one of their classmates.

Suzanne Forte, 30, dismissed her students at Jefferson on Tuesday and notified the principal that she was ill, said New Rochelle Schools Superintendent Linda Kelly.

The children were sent to other classrooms and did not see Mrs. Forte collapse, she said.

Paramedics were unable to revive her.

Mrs. Forte, who had a baby last summer, had a history of heart trouble, police and firefighters said.

Last week, first-grader Bianca Boswell was killed when she was hit by a truck after she got off her school bus.
