Candidate forum set

August 26, 2018

NEEDLES — A forum for candidates for Needles’ mayor, city council and the Needles Unified School District Board of Trustees is being organized for Wednesday, Sept. 26.

Candidates are to be elected in the statewide general election set for Nov. 6.

This forum, like the 2016 forum with which it shares format, theme and location, will be hosted by the Needles Downtown Business Alliance. Candidates face the public at 6 p.m. in the El Garces, the historic Harvey House now become an intermodal transportation facility adjacent Santa Fe Park in the 900 block of Front Street.

Leading the August meeting of the NDBA, Jan Jernigan said the alliance’s foray into forum presentation was well received with about 70 voters in the audience. Like last time, those attending will be able to write questions on provided 3x5 cards which will be sent to a panel for review before being presented to the candidates.

With a moderator providing a structured introduction period for opening statements and enforcing time limits on candidate answers Jernigan said she expects the event to move right along.

Candidates may sign up by contacting Jernigan at her Farmers Insurance office on the corner of Broadway and G Street in Needles or calling her at 760-326-4007.
