Santa kicks off holiday season at Huntington Mall
BARBOURSVILLE — Tri-State residents awoke Saturday to white powder covering their lawns, and there is only one person to blame — Santa Claus has come to town.
St. Nick arrived at the Huntington Mall on Saturday morning, complete with snow and reindeer, officially kicking off the holiday season at the mall. Squeals of delight, along with some tears, filled the mall as hundreds of little ones lined up for a chance to whisper their Christmas lists into the ear of the big man himself.
Next door, two live reindeer sat waiting to whisk Santa back to the North Pole in time to give that nice/naughty list a look for the first time. Mrs. Claus also made an appearance to let children in on some North Pole secrets.
Santa said to love and get along with your fellow man was the lesson for this holiday season.
“We want more understanding, more patience and more acceptance of differences,” he said.
Naveah Hayes, 6, said she loved getting to see Santa. She’s ready to be extra good for the next couple of weeks.
“I want L.O.L. Dolls for Christmas,” she told Santa.
Her dad, Isiah Hayes, said they have been taking her to see Santa since she was 2, and it’s getting easier each year to get her on Santa’s lap.
Next week, Santa and his crew will host a special “Kindness Santa” event for children with disabilities starting at 9 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 17. Mall music will be off and instead of waiting in line, a sensory-friendly play area will be set up for kids to eliminate waiting in line.
Huntington Mall hours are 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday.
