Riddle beats Mapleton, 52-44

RIDDLE — The Riddle football team rebounded from an early 16-point deficit and earned its first win of the season on Friday night, holding off Mapleton 52-44 in a nonleague game.

Nate Hopkins rushed for 91 yards on nine carries and scored two touchdowns, caught a 41-yard scoring pass and intercepted two passes for the Irish (1-1). Cameron McMichael ran for 79 yards on seven attempts with a pair of scores and passed for 85 yards, and Donovan Hargraves carried the ball 16 times for 70 yards and two TDs.

The score was tied 24-24 at halftime.

“I’m very proud of the kids for coming back (after falling behind 16-0),” said Riddle coach Russell Hobson. “They played hard.”

The Irish are on the road next Friday, meeting Chiloquin in a nonleague game in Klamath Falls.
