Kong Yin, Believed to Be China’s Oldest Woman, Dies at 123
BEIJING (AP) _ Kong Yin, believed to be China’s oldest woman, has died at age 123, the official China Daily newspaper said today.
Kong died last Saturday of emphysema in Guangdong, south China, it said.
A Japanese man who died in 1986 aged 120 is listed in the 1994 Guinness Book of Records as the oldest person ever to have lived.
It was not immediately possible to independently authenticate Kong’s age.
Born in 1871, Kong married at age 15 and had four children, the newspaper said.
She was a reigning ″China Longevity Queen,″ a title that brought her a monthly stipend of about $23, it said.
