April 3, 2019

SCRANTON — Unemployment for the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre/Hazleton metro area was at 4.5 percent in February, down one-tenth of a point from the month before, the state labor department announced Tuesday. Over the year, the number of unemployed in the metro area dropped 2,500 to 12,400. The labor force shrank by 1,000 workers since February 2018 to 277,600, while the number of employed people increased 1,500 to 265,200 for the time period. State analysts remain in the middle of an annual data revision process called benchmarking, a process that could change historical figures. — JON O’CONNELL
