Lady Eagles earn two important victories
Dawson’s Courtney Day pitched her second straight complete game of the week against a quality opponent, leading the Lady Eagles to a 5-1 win over George Ranch Friday night in a District 23-6A softball game.
Day pitched seven innings, striking out 12. Olivia Johnson drove in two runs for Dawson while Lady Eagle Kirsten Williams banged out three hits. Peyton Ellerman added two hits for Dawson.
The Lady Eagles, now 7-4 overall and 2-1 in district, scored single runs in the first, second, fourth, fifth and sixth innings.
Earlier in the week, Dawson defeated Brazoswood, also by a 5-1 score.
Day struck out 13 in that game, and also walked twice. Dawson scored four runs in the decisive second inning and added its fifth run in the fifth.
Brazoswood could manage just a fourth-inning run.
Kyra Lunford had three hits for Dawson while Brooke Toler and Hannah DeLaRosa each had two RBI. Johnson also knocked in a run for Dawson.
In Dawson’s 1-0 loss to Pearland in a district opener, Day fanned 10 in another complete-game effort. In each of her four plate appearances she walked.
