BISMARCK, N.D. _ A deadly arctic deep freeze has enveloped the Midwest with record-breaking temperatures. Numerous schools and businesses were closed Wednesday because of the cold, and the U.S. Postal Service took the rare step of suspending mail delivery to a wide swath of the region. Some buses were turned into mobile warming shelters to help the homeless in Chicago, where the temperature plunged to minus 19 degrees early Wednesday, breaking a record for the day set in 1966. INDIANAPOLIS _ Anthem Inc. (ANTM) on Wednesday reported fourth-quarter earnings of $424 million. The Indianapolis-based company said it had profit of $1.61 per share. Earnings, adjusted for one-time gains and costs, came to $2.44 per share. SENT: 160 words.
