Indianapolis woman faces charges after 2-month-old’s death
INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — Indianapolis police say a 36-year-old woman faces preliminary neglect charges after her 2-month-old daughter died.
Police said Wednesday that officers performing a welfare check found Rachel McAfee and her baby, Emma McAfee, in a vehicle Tuesday afternoon. The baby was pronounced dead at the scene and first responders took her mother to a hospital.
Police say McAfee was preliminarily charged with neglect of a dependent causing death.
The Indianapolis Star reports police said McAfee “suffers from alcoholism and post-partum depression and is possibly suicidal.” They said the mother and child had been last seen leaving their home Monday morning.
McAfee did not have a listed phone number to pursue comment. Police said Wednesday that she remained hospitalized. An autopsy is planned to determine the baby’s cause and manner of death.
