Hearings on wind ordinance to be held at Egyptian Theatre

September 22, 2018

DeKALB – Residents will be able to provide final input on the DeKalb County wind ordinance draft that the DeKalb County Planning and Zoning Committee passed last month.

The two public hearings will be held from 1 to 4:30 p.m. and 6 to 9 p.m. Monday at the Egyptian Theatre, 135 N. Second St. The meetings will be the only opportunity for public input about the ordinance, according to the county website.

The moratorium that the county set on wind energy projects in 2017 also was extended to the end of this year during the DeKalb County Board meeting Wednesday evening. It originally was supposed to expire this month if the county didn’t pass a wind ordinance, but it has been extended to the end of the year or until the county passes a final ordinance.

If the ordinance is approved by the hearing officer after public input, county officials have said next steps for the ordinance after the public hearings could include sending the ordinance draft back to the committee and eventually sending it to the County Board.

County Board Chairman Mark Pietrowski Jr. had said the goal is to have an ordinance passed by November so current board members whose terms are expiring still will have a say in the draft.
