Havasu has no trouble on road, sweeps Vista Grande
In what was its first road match of the season, the Lake Havasu girls’ tennis team had little trouble against Vista Grande on Thursday, winning 9-0.
The Knights (3-0) did not drop a set on the day and only lost a combined eight games.
Junior Jaidyn Chauhan and sophomore Kovina Savita were immaculate for Lake Havasu, winning each of their singles matches in straight sets without dropping a game and then winning 8-0 as a tandem in doubles.
Each of them improved to 6-0 on the season and neither has yet to drop a set.
“I thought it was a good team effort from top to bottom,” said Greg Brueckner, girls’ head tennis coach. “It was a good first road match.”
Senior Tatum Liska and junior Athena Ganas also improved to 6-0 on the season with their wins today. The pair won its doubles match by a score of 8-0 and only dropped one game apiece in singles play.
Senior Shivangi Bhakta dropped only one game in her singles match as well and ran her overall record to 6-0 this season.
Following a loss on Tuesday against Higley, senior Hannah Jackson bounced back and won her singles match with scores of 6-3 and 6-2. She improved to 5-1 overall.
“Each match is a stepping stone,” said Brueckner. “Hopefully we can continue to improve and make a run at state.”
Next week, the Knights will take on Willow Canyon at home on Tuesday at 3:30 p.m. then will travel to face Bradshaw Mountain at 3 p.m. on Wednesday.
