High School Roundup GA earns road win

October 14, 2018

Two goals by Grace Schulze helped power the Greenwich Academy field hockey team to a 3-0 road win over Tabor Academy.

Schulze, a junior, scored the game’s first goal with 28:24 remaining in the opening half. Junior Maya Walker assisted on the goal.

At the 16:26 mark of the opening half, Lila Murray tallied, giving GA a 2-0 edge. Elektra Rodgers set Murray up for the goal.

Schulze capped the scoring with two minutes left to play.

“Tabor was a tough, physical team, who challenged our defense and put pressure on our goalie, Hamilton Doster, who made 5 great saves,” GA coach Jamie Brower said.

GA plays Holy Child on Thursday.

SACRED HEART FIELD HOCKEY

The Tigers and visiting Hotchkiss School dueled to a 1-1 overtime draw at Sacred Heart.

Senior Ryan Smith gave Sacred Heart a 1-0 lead with a goal at the 1:48 mark of the first half. Alexandra Bowman scored the tying goal for the Bearcats with 7:07 left in the second half. Olivia Caponiti made two saves for the Tigers, who allowed just their first goal of the season.

Sacred Heart drew five penalty corners and Amanda Hill made seven saves for Hotchkiss.

“We expect it to be a good game every time we play Hotchkiss,” Sacred Heart coach Alex Gheorghe said. “We were playing in their half the majority of the match.”
