STILLWATER, Okla. (AP) _ Mike Gundy threw for three touchdowns and split end Hart Lee Dykes set a single-season reception record as Oklahoma State defeated Iowa State, 21-14, in Big Eight college football Saturday.

Gundy threw scoring passes of 10, 1 and 20 yards as the Cowboys ran their record to 5-5 overall, 3-3 in the Big Eight.

Dykes, a sophomore, caught 11 passes for 131 yards and a touchdown. His 58 receptions this season broke the record of 54 set in 1968 by Terry Brown. His touchdown catch gave him seven this year, tying a school single-season record shared by three other players.

Iowa State, which finished its year 6-5 overall and 3-4 in the conference, lost a chance to get the ball back for a final touchdown try when a roughing the passer penalty on third down gave Oklahoma State an automatic first down with less than two minutes to play. The Cowboys then ran out the clock.

Oklahoma State trailed 7-0 early in the second period but came back with a nine-play, 73-yard drive capped by Gundy’s 10-yard touchdown pass to tight end Brien Keith.

Gundy hit tight end J.R. Dillard for another score with 1:13 to play before halftime to make the score 14-7. The big play on the drive was a 31-yard completion to Kevin Simien on third and 10 that put the ball on the Iowa State 16.

Dykes caught four passes for 48 yards on the Cowboys’ final scoring drive, which covered 72 yards in 12 plays.

Iowa State’s final score came on an 8-yard run by Curtis Warren with 6:40 remaining. A 38-yard pass from Alex Espinoza to Joe Henderson helped set up the score.

Gundy completed 18 of 35 passes for 195 yards. Espinoza was 13 of 31 for 201 yards.
