France calls up Kurt Zouma as backup in defense
PARIS (AP) — France coach Didier Deschamps has called up Chelsea center half Kurt Zouma as backup in defense for games against Albania and Sweden.
The 20-year-old Zouma, who has made just five appearances for Chelsea this season after joining from Saint-Etienne, was drafted on Tuesday because Loic Perrin and Eliaquim Mangala are carrying minor calf injuries.
France plays Albania in Rennes on Friday and hosts Sweden in Marseille four days later.
Albania is in the same group as France in qualifying for the 2016 European Championship. But since France has automatically qualified as host, its matches don’t count for points for either team.
