January 12, 2019

GERING — Dancers are preparing their routines ahead of the annual Soroptimist Dancing with the Stars fundraiser.

The Soroptimist International of Scotts Bluff County is holding its annual Dancing with the Stars fundraising event on Saturday, Jan. 26.

The fourth Dancing with the Stars event will be at the Gering Civic Center, starting at 6 p.m. The fancy evening affair starts with a cash bar, which opens at 6 p.m., followed by a sit-down dinner at 7.

The Dancing with the Stars event is based on the hit reality show and will offer an evening of entertainment by local dancers.

Colleen Johnson said based on the current entrants, this year’s event will feature a variety of dancers who have a variety of dance experience.

The Soroptimist organization supports several local organizations, specifically ones that focus on women and girls’ well-being. Johnson spoke about the purpose of Soroptimist and the Dancing with the Stars fundraiser.

“Soroptimist is an organization of women that helps promote things for other women from scholarships to donations, all kept locally,” she said. “The worldwide organization has a mission to improve accessibility to water and clean water.”

Each couple will dance to a song of their choosing.
