Vermont firm selected to conduct water study

July 8, 2019

NORTH POWNAL, Vt. (AP) — Vermont’s environmental agency has selected a consulting firm to conduct a study on one community’s water issues.

The Dufresne Group has been chosen to conduct a state-funded analysis of water issues and options for providing clean drinking water to residents of North Pownal village.

The Bennington Banner reports the study is a response to the PFOA (perfluorooctanoic acid) contamination discovered in some private wells in 2016.

The commission will cover options of tapping into groundwater resources and supplying water, including the potential to replace the wells or implement a village-wide water system.

The work is estimated to cost $40,000 and will include public meetings and participation at various stages of the process. The final report is expected to be done by Jan. 1, 2020.
