Sports Editor John Bibb Dies at 72
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) _ John Bibb, a retired sports editor for The Tennessean, is dead after a long illness. He was 72.
Bibb, a member of the Tennessee Sports Hall of Fame and a two-time president of the Golf Writers Association of America, died Sunday at St. Thomas Hospital.
Bibb was known for his witty columns.
``Sports writers, athletes and coaches from all over the nation will remember John as a great sports editor and writer,″ said John Seigenthaler, chairman emeritus of The Tennessean.
``He was that, of course. But more than anything else he was a great human being, a great husband and a father, a great mentor and to me a great friend.″
Bibb also worked as a sports commentator on WSM’s ``Waking Crew″ program. He later joined the ``Roundtable″ program, where he offered views on politics and other topics.
