Boca wraps up first half with lackluster draw

December 9, 2013

BUENOS AIRES, Argentina (AP) — Boca Juniors wrapped up the first half of the Argentine first-division season with a lackluster 1-1 draw against Gimnasia Sunday.

Franco Mussis scored early for Gimnasia, before Emmanuel Gigliotti equalized to start the second half.

The match at La Bombonera had little meaning with Boca out of contention for the first-half title.

The first-half title will be decided next Sunday with two games: Newell’s vs. Lanus and Velez Sarsfield vs. San Lorenzo. San Lorenzo leads with 32 points, while the three others trail by two. Boca finished with 29 points.

Argentina, like many Latin American countries, holds two titles per season.

In other weekend results, Belgrano downed All Boys 1-0; Racing defeated Godoy Cruz 2-0; Rosario Central beat Argentinos 2-1, Rafaela drew 1-1 with Arsenal and Tigre beat Estudiantes 2-0.
