Florence County pursuit ends in arrest, crashes

May 12, 2019

FLORENCE, S.C. — A police pursuit through and around west Florence Friday night ended with one arrest and two crashes.

Thursday night Florence police were attempting to stop a car on Second Loop Road when Florence County sheriff’s deputies assigned to the traffic safety unit saw it go through the parking lot at the Walgreens at the intersection of Second Loop Road and South Cashua Drive — hitting the buggy return and losing its bumper in return, according to a post on the unit’s Instagram page.

From there, with deputies in pursuit, the car went south on South Cashua Drive, turned onto Santiago Drive, left onto Emery Drive, went through a church parking lot, then down West Palmetto Street to Parker Drive where it went into an apartment complex where the driver jumped from the still-moving vehicle after which it ran into two parked vehicles, according to the Instagram post.

The driver, who ran, was taken into custody by deputies.

The driver was charged with driving under the influence, two counts of hit and run, and one count each of reckless driving, failure to stop for blue lights, open container violation, seat belt violation and not having a driver’s license.

The post didn’t identify the driver.

The South Carolina Highway Patrol responded to investigate the two crashes at the end of the pursuit.
