INDIANA LEGISLATURE

INDIANAPOLIS _ Indiana lawmakers could struggle to give more than minimal funding increases to public schools in the new state budget that will emerge from this year’s legislative session. Members of the General Assembly will return Thursday to the Statehouse in Indianapolis for a session that’s expected to last until late April. By Tom Davies. UPCOMING: 500 words.

OBIT-TYLER TRENT-PURDUE

INDIANAPOLIS _ Tyler Trent, a former Purdue University student and college football super fan who inspired many with his battle against cancer, died Tuesday. He was 20 years old. His family confirmed the death to The Indianapolis Star. Trent wanted to be a sportswriter and was determined to attend Purdue despite suffering three bouts with a rare bone cancer, first diagnosed at age 15. He entered Purdue in the fall of 2017 while undergoing chemotherapy. SENT: 400 words, photos.

_ BODY RECOVERED-CREEK: Authorities say they’ve recovered the body of a 63-year-old woman who was apparently swept away after the vehicle she was driving went into a flooded creek in southeastern Indiana.

_ OVERTURNED TRUCK-FISH KILL: Indiana regulators are seeking a more than $12,000 fine against a Texas trucking company accused of causing a fish kill in eastern Indiana.

_ PEDESTRIAN STRUCK-INDIANA: Authorities say a 47-year-old Ohio man has died after being struck by a car while crossing a roadway near a casino in southeastern Indiana. Robert V. Loughry of Gahanna, Ohio, died Monday after he was struck while crossing State Road 156 with three other people to an overflow parking lot across from Belterra Casino Resort in Florence.

INDIANAPOLIS _ Andrew Luck spent last January just like the previous two _ watching playoff games from afar and hoping for a chance to return. This weekend he’s officially back. After a coaching change, a major roster overhaul and nearly two years removed from shoulder surgery, the Indianapolis Colts quarterback celebrated New Year’s Day by prepping for Saturday’s wild-card game in his hometown of Houston.
