Snowboarder Killed in Race

LEYSIN, Switzerland (AP) _ A Swiss snowboarder was killed today when he crashed into a pillar during an international competition.

Daniel Loetscher, 26, lost his balance during the final of the parallel giant slalom, part of the International Snowboarding Federation’s World Series.

He smashed into the pillar at the finish line and was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

Loetscher was 21st overall in the season-long competition.

Organizers canceled today’s remaining races. The event ends Sunday.
