Out Of The Blue Fundraiser To Benefit Lackawanna College Annual Fund

September 4, 2018

This week, staff writer Laura Rysz talks with Michele Newberry about the upcoming Out of the Blue — Lackawanna College Annual Fund Celebration , which raises money to provide institutional aid to students.

Residence: Dickson City

Educational background: Attended Lackawanna College and earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Wagner College

Title: Director of the Lackawanna College Annual Fund and Alumni Relations

Q: What was the inspiration for this event?

A: Out of the Blue is inspired by “Diner en Blanc — Dinner in White,” a popular pop-up dinner held in cities all around the world. At Diner en Blanc, guests would bring their own tables, chairs and linens — but at Out of the Blue, we provide the basics to make your experience much easier.

Q: How is this fundraiser different?

A: Table captains are able to craft a party within a party by arranging their own posh tablescapes with the help of their invited guests. Table captains can invite up to nine guests to join them in the unique experience. There also will be a tablescape competition for the best centerpiece and presentation. Each guest brings their own food, beverages and décor while the college provides a memorable venue, tables, chairs, linens and entertainment. Like Diner en Blanc, the location will be revealed just hours before the event begins.

Q: Explain how the fundraiser works.

A: On the morning of the event, periodic messages will be sent via email, text and social media to all registered guests revealing the location of the dinner. Admission is $25 per person.

Q: Who will be providing entertainment?

A: This year, our entertainment is EJ the DJ, and we also will be giving awards for the best dressed and the best tablescape — and please wear blue.

Q: How will proceeds be used?

A: The proceeds will go to the Lackawanna College annual fund. Our annual fund allows us to provide an affordable education for anyone who wishes to attend through our open enrollment. Additionally, the college can provide institutional aid to our most deserving students.
