Three people, including two children, died and two were injured a two-vehicle crash in Steuben County, the sheriff’s department said Monday.

The crash occurred around 11:35 a.m. Saturday at County Road 800 South and Old 27.

Rhiannon Momenee, 6, and Madelyn Bittle, 18 months, both of Montpelier, Ohio, and Stephanie D. Hogan, 25, of Auburn, all died in the crash. All were back-seat passengers in a 2002 Dodge Intrepid driven by Patricia L. Bittle, 22, of Montpelier, the sheriff’s department said.

Bittle was westbound on County Road 800 South when she stopped at a stop sign at Old 27. She then entered the intersection but failed to yield the right of way to a northbound Chevrolet Silverado pulling a loaded trailer and driven by Jeffery L. Durkes, 45 of Harlan.

Bittle was taken by ambulance to Parkview Regional Medical Center in Fort Wayne in critical condition. Durkes was uninjured in the crash.

Samson Cole, 31, of Bryan, Ohio, was a front passenger in the Dodge Intrepid and was taken to Parkview Regional Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries, police said.
