Jorrin Retains WBC Title
SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) _ Willie Jorrin retained his World Boxing Council super-bantamweight title when he outpointed No. 1 contender Oscar Larios before a crowd of nearly 5,000 at ARCO Arena on Friday night.
All three judges had Jorrin, from West Sacramento, winning his first title defense 115-113. There were no knockdowns.
Jorrin, 31, improved his record to 28-0 with 12 knockouts. Larios, 24, dropped to 39-3-1 with 30 knockouts.
Larios, from Guadalajara, Mexico, set a fast pace and appeared to control the early part of the fight. But Jorrin gradually began to get to his opponent with body shots and turned the verdict in his direction.
In an undercard bout, Sacramento lightweight Juan Lazcano raised his record to 26-2-1 with his 19th knockout victory at 2:20 of the fifth round against Vladimir Matkivsky of Philadelphia.
