District college football roundup: IUP edges Ashland in opener
The IUP football team got its season off to a positive start with a 21-17 nonconference victory Thursday night over Ashland.
Lenny Williams (Sto-Rox) threw for 214 yards and three touchdowns and ran for 63 yards for IUP (1-0).
Ricky Rogers caught all three TD passes and had six catches overall for 73 yards.
Andrew Vaughn ran for 133 yards and a score for Ashland (0-1).
Ohio Dominican 28, Cal (Pa.) 23 -- Noah Mitchell completed 32 of 51 passes for 329 yards and three touchdowns but also threw three interceptions as Cal (0-1) lost its nonconference opener.
Cal drove 14 plays and 57 yards to the ODU 15 in the final minute but turned the ball over on downs.
Nelson Brown ran for 94 yards for the Vulcans.
Shane Bucenell threw for 286 yards and three scores for Ohio Dominican (1-0).
Southern Connecticut State 35, Gannon 32 -- Jimmy Keefe threw for 212 yards and three touchdowns and also ran for 41 yards and a score but Gannon (0-1) lost a nonconference game to open the season. Marcus Jones ran for 165 yards and a score in the win. Joey Cox, Jordan Smith and Jacardi Brooks caught touchdown passes.
Eli Parks ran for 127 yards and four scores for Southern Connecticut State (1-0).
