Pacers deride 2K19 portrayal

September 12, 2018

I have received the following statement from the NBA’s Indiana Pacers, who own and operate the Mad Ants, regarding the controversial portrayal of Fort Wayne in the latest release of the “NBA 2K19” video game. In that game, there is a scene in which Fort Wayne is mocked for having bad weather, no media coverage and nothing of substance outside of basketball and Amish people.

This is within a mode where players take over a player trying to make it from China to the NBA by becoming a member of the Mad Ants of the G League. I have a column on this that I hope you will check out -- and will temper your anger -- that will hit The Journal Gazette’s website later today.

This from Rick Fuson, the president and COO of Pacers Sports & Entertainment: “On behalf of Pacers Sports & Entertainment: “I want to set the record straight that we were not informed of the game developer’s narrative and portrayal of Fort Wayne : which we strongly disagree with. We know through our firsthand experience that Fort Wayne is a great place to live, work and play, so the narrative does not fairly or accurately represent the city and our state.”
