The Real National, International Emergency

March 22, 2019

Editor: Our real national (and international) emergency isn’t the immigration of a group of desperate people, it’s countering climate change. According to NASA, “Ninety seven percent of climate scientists agree: the climate-warming trends over the past century are extremely likely due to human activities.” Seventy five percent of Americans agree. Half of Americans recognize that the country is being harmed right now and 75 percent believe that future generations of people will be harmed. The clock is ticking. We have 12 years to act to limit the climate change catastrophe, according to a UN panel of climate scientists report. Turning a blind eye to similar reports from our military and intelligence officials will create havoc and erode our national security. We need a “Green New Deal” to direct our financial and intellectual assets toward the creation of non-polluting industry and transportation, upgrade buildings to maximal energy efficiency, and transition the United States to clean, renewable, and zero-emission energy sources.
