Solar developer seeks ‘preferred’ status for Rutland project

March 30, 2019

RUTLAND, Vt. (AP) — A Vermont developer hoping to put solar panels on some of the properties he owns in Rutland is trying to persuade city officials that saying a proposed solar project is on a “preferred site” is not the same as “endorsing” it.

The Rutland Herald reports that Charles Coughlin was in front of the Community and Economic Development Committee Wednesday seeking a letter of support for his plan to build a solar array on his West Street property.

Phil Allen of Same Sun Vermont told the officials that if Coughlin gets a letter from the city and the Rutland Regional Planning Commission agreeing that the location is a preferred site, he gets a penny more per kilowatt hour.

But city officials delayed action on the request until next month.
