RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) _ Tammy Gibson scored 17 of her game-high 23 points in the first half to lead North Carolina State past No. 14 Duke 71-55 on Sunday.

Gibson was 7-of-7 from the field in the first half, including three 3-pointers, to help the Wolfpack open a 39-20 halftime lead. N.C. State withstood several Duke rallies in the second half to improve to 13-7 and 6-4 in the ACC.

Duke (16-4, 7-3) led only once, at 3-2, on a 3-pointer by Jennifer Scanlon. Gibson then scored 12 straight points as the Wolfpack opened a 14-7 lead.

N.C. State turned to freshman center Chasity Melvin, who scored 8 points in a 16-6 run to end the first half.

Duke’s full-court press in the second half forced several Wolfpack turnovers. The Blue Devils pulled within eight, 53-45, on a follow shot Shaeeta Brown with 9:50 left, but could get no closer.

Melvin finished with 16 points and five rebounds for N.C. State. Kolleen Kreul added 11 points and Jennifer Howard 10 for the Wolfpack.

Allison Day and Carey Kauffman led Duke with 12 points apiece. Ty Hall added 10 for the Blue Devils.
