Campbell, Pietersen Earn Conference Honors Again
Fitchburg State junior pitcher Emma Campbell and freshman infielder Olivia Pietersen were named Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Softball Pitcher of the Week and Rookie of the Week, respectively.
Campbell collects her second weekly accolade on the year after pitching a one-hit shutout with six strikeouts as well as going 2-for-4 with three RBI in a 9-0 victory against Anna Maria on Thursday.
Pietersen received her third straight weekly honor after batting .571 (4-for-7) with two doubles, four runs scored and three RBI in a doubleheader sweep over Anna Maria College on Thursday.
The Fitchburg State softball team (8-4) returns to action on Wednesday as it travels to Becker College for a non-conference doubleheader, starting at 3 p.m.
Stalters’ big throw garners recognition
Fitchburg State senior Cameron Stalters was tabbed MASCAC Men’s Outdoor Field Athlete of the Week on Monday.
The fourth-year Falcon set a new meet record with first-place toss of 61.34 meters in the javelin to qualify for the 2019 Open New England Championships for the Falcons at the 2019 BSU Bears Track & Field Invitational on Saturday.
With that throw, Stalters currently ranks second nationally in the javelin.
The Fitchburg State men’s outdoor track and field team returns to action Saturday at Tufts University, competing in the Tufts Snowflake Classic at 10 a.m.
