PREP ATHLETES OF THE WEEK — SEPT. 20-SEPT. 26
Savannah Senica — Volleyball
Lake Havasu junior Savannah Senica has been on an offensive tear this past week for the volleyball team.
In two games and a six-game tournament, the junior has logged 46 kills and 24 ace serves.
That’s a total of 70 points over eight games.
“I think so far this has definitely been my best week stats wise,” Senica said. “Just knowing it was going to have tough competition that week I took it as a challenge. Seeing how it turned out is motivating me to be even better.”
In 58 sets played this season, Senica has 122 kills and 50 aces.
Defensively, Senica has not been bad either. In those two games and the tournament she dug the ball 77 times and led her team in digs five times out of eight games.
Nicholas Rizzo — Swim
Senior Nicholas Rizzo had his best week in the water this season.
Last Saturday 30th Annual Brophy Xavier Swim and Dive Invitational, Rizzo posted his personal best in the 100 butterfly event win with a time of 59.14 seconds and is ranked 26th in the state for that event.
At that same event Rizzo was part of relay teams that better their times to move up the provisional state qualifiers list.
On Wednesday, Rizzo swam a 1:09.67 in the 100 butterfly to take first in the Knights home meet against Mohave and Yuma Kofa. He also was part of the 200 medley and 200 freestyle relay teams that placed first.
“Practice has been tough and there were some rough patches for us against some teams,” Rizzo said. “But overall everyone is dropping times and meets have been going great.”
