CULVER CITY, Calif. (AP) — Police in a Los Angeles suburb say they shot and killed a 30-year-old man who charged at them with a knife after stabbing his sister.

KABC-TV reports that the man was shot about 2 p.m. Saturday in a Culver City neighborhood.

The station says the man attacked his 27-year-old sister with a butcher knife in an apartment they were using as a vacation rental. They were visiting from Northern California.

Authorities tell KABC that the woman escape the apartment and ran down the street asking for help.

Authorities say police arrived and were confronted by the man, who charged at the officers. They shot him.

KABC says The man was pronounced dead at a nearby hospital. Authorities have not released his name.

The man's sister is being treated at a hospital and is expected to survive.
