Cairnbrook student wins $2,500 for her school
Cairnbrook Elementary School teacher Terri Fleck saw the Edgar Snyder & Associates’ “My Holiday Wish” coloring contest promoted on television and couldn’t wait to help her students enter.
It was a good thing she did. Student Jade Baldwin’s work was chosen as a winner. Baldwin, 7, submitted an entry with more than 3,500 others. The contest, now in its 15th year, asks elementary students across western and central Pennsylvania to draw their holiday wish.
“This contest not only challenged the children to think on a grander scale beyond themselves, it gave me the opportunity to work on important skills with them,” Fleck said. “The added bonus was the thought that their works could actually win . . . they are some of the sweetest, kindest kids that you would ever meet.”
Kindness led the coloring contest judges to select Baldwin as a winner. She has a simple wish, “to make people happy.” As a result, Edgar Snyder & Associates will donate $2,500 to Cairnbrook Elementary in Baldwin’s honor.
When Fleck learned that one of her students won, she had strong praise for the kids.
The contest “gave my kids purpose and hope, as well as a reason to do their very best,” she said in a press release. “Jade is a special little girl in so many ways . . . she will be a hero for the school!”
Fleck said the donation will be used for creating a sensory room for all the kids to use.
“I am so very excited as this is something we really needed but never had the funding to do. The donation will help so many kids,” she said.
In addition to the school donation, Baldwin received a gift card. Her artwork appeared on a billboard, and on the firm’s holiday card.
