NOT FOR PUBLICATION OR BROADCAST
AP Travel is launching four new columns this month.
—SERENITY NOW: 250-400 words about a serene spot, a place that makes you want to sit down and just exhale. A garden, hilltop, view, pocket park, trail, church, public art, beach, drive or even a quiet community where the pace of life feels relaxed. One or more photos. Biweekly. First column was sent Tuesday, March 3, on Apalachicola, Florida.
—ESSENTIALS: Everything you need to know about visiting a place in 800 words. This is an easy-to-use, comprehensive guide to a destination, written in chunky text with four sections: Classic Attractions, What’s New, Tips and Hanging Out. Biweekly. Three or more photos. First column planned for Thursday, March 5, on Los Angeles.
—NEIGHBORHOODS: 400 words about an interesting area worth exploring or hanging out in for an hour or two. Streetscape, shops, street art, architecture, history, funky vibe, ethnic or local culture, fun hangouts, bars, cafes, parks. One or more photos, biweekly. First column runs Tuesday, March 10.
—BLEISURE BITS: Bleisure is a blended word combining business and leisure. Business travelers are often trapped in meetings all day. But if they can sneak away for a morning jog, or visit one attraction, or check out one unique store, where should they go? This series is for the time-crunched visitor. 250-400 words. One or more photos. Biweekly. First column runs Thursday, March 12.
The stories will be sent to Travel and Lifestyles subscribers, online and print, and on local lines for whatever destination the story is about.
A fifth column, Travel Briefs-New and Now, launched in January. Each New and Now consists of three to five briefs about upcoming events, attractions or other seasonal travel information.
In addition, AP Travel will continue to offer additional destination stories with photos and daily spot travel news.
