Officials: Man, 30, charged with killing his grandmother, 74
BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) — Officials say a 30-year-old man has been charged with second-degree murder after his 74-year-old grandmother was found dead in her Buffalo home.
Erie County District Attorney John Flynn announced Monday that a relative of Pamela Toy asked police to do a welfare check on her Sunday night at her home in the city’s South Buffalo section.
Flynn says when officers arrived they found her dead inside the home. A cause of death hasn’t been determined, but Flynn says it appears she may have been bludgeoned.
Officials say her son, Alec Swiderski, was arrested early Monday morning. He was arraigned and is due back in court Friday. Flynn says a judge has approved a request for a psychiatric evaluation Swiderski.
Prosecutors say he’ll be assigned a lawyer.
