County Man Sentenced For Fraud
SCRANTON — A Lackawanna County man faces prison time for stolen mail and bank fraud.
Brandon L. Heaton, 35, Clarks Summit, was sentenced to 21 months of imprisonment Monday by United States District Court Judge A. Richard Caputo.
According to U.S. Attorney David J. Freed, Heaton pleaded guilty to stealing mailed checks from mail boxes, forging and depositing the checks and withdrawing the money from his accounts between Sept. 6 to Sept. 17, 2017, a news release said.
The U.S. Postal Inspection Service investigated the case, and Assistant U.S. Attorney Todd K. Hinkley was the prosecutor.
In addition to jail time, Caputo also ordered Heaton to pay nearly $15,000 in restitution.
