City Council to discuss apartment project Monday
A company is planning to transform the parcel of land at 705 S. Madison St., on which the abandoned railroad depot now stands, into affordable housing called the Depot Apartments.
The Ludington City Council will vote Monday evening on approving a municipal service agreement with Depot Apartments.
At its last meeting, the council rezoned the property to be multi-family residential, so the developer Herman & Kittles Properties, Inc., can potentially build a 52-unit lower-income apartment complex on the land.
Interim City Manager Steve Brock is also recommending the council show support for the housing project as the developer seeks funding from the state of Michigan. If the council votes in favor, the city would collect payment in lieu of taxes or a municipal services fee for the property.
