Leroy Swygman -- Cumming, Ga.
Leroy G. Swygman died on Wednesday, Oct. 3, just shy of his 88th birthday.
Lee was a loving, dedicated husband to Doris Elaine (Foss) Swygman and father of three boys, Scott, Rick and Jeff. Born on Nov. 4, 1930, Lee attended Stewartville High School from 1945 to 1949. After marrying Doris in 1952 and then serving as a Corporal and Field Radio Repairman in the U.S. Army from 1953 through 1955, he had a 25+ year career at Gambles Skogmo, Inc. and another 20 years as a career counselor for Haldane & Associates.
Growing up in Stewartville, and after several relocations with both the Army and Gambles, Lee and Doris raised their family primarily in Hopkins, Minn. They subsequently moved to Sun Lakes, Ariz., where they lived in “their paradise” for more than 30 years before relocating to Cumming, Ga., to be near family.
Two of Lee and Doris’ sons predeceased Lee, with Jeff passing in 2013 and Scott in 2016. He is survived by his wife, Doris; son, Rick; Rick’s wife, Kathy, and their four children, Samantha (and husband, Connor) Ratcliffe of Raleigh, N.C., Jack (and wife, Elle) Swygman of Fort Worth, Texas, Jessica and Samuel; Scott’s wife, Val of Grand Forks, N.D.; and Scott’s daughter, Katelyn of Minneapolis.
Lee’s favorite hobby was golf, but most of his time was spent on his number one priority — his wife and his family. He will be greatly missed and will live on in the hearts and minds of many.
There will be a private family memorial service for Lee on Sunday, Oct. 7, at McDonald and Son Funeral Home in Cumming, Ga. If you wish to make a donation in Lee’s name, the family requests it be sent to The Oaks at Hampton (a wonderful assisted living facility where Doris still resides), 5610 Hampton Park Drive, Cumming, GA, 30041.
