Tax officials seeking new Bridgeport office

December 14, 2018

The state Department of Revenue Services’ field office in Bridgeport is closing, but the agency head is trying to find new space to rent for the popular taxpayer walk-in center.

The lease on the Middle Street location is expiring in mid-January, and DRS Commissioner Scott Jackson said Friday that requests for a new rental location have not yielded any offers. “There were zero responses,” Jackson said in a phone interview, describing the office atmosphere as “a family feel.”

He said that during tax season, as many as 20 DRS employees use the office as a base, including a dozen auditors who spend much of their time in the field.

“The walk-in taxpayer services center is very busy for us,” Jackson said. “We definitely want to maintain a walk-in center in Bridgeport. We are going to do our best to do that.” Until a new space can be found, the office will be combined with the DRS facility in Waterbury.
