Rice 30, Tulane 24

NEW ORLEANS (AP) _ Benji Wood ran for 190 yards and four touchdowns Saturday night and Rice came back to beat Tulane 30-24.

Rice (1-1), which had five passes intercepted in a loss to Air Force last week, ditched the passing game this week and ran for 413 yards.

Woods scored on runs of 15 and 25 yards in the first quarter and 41 and 1 yards in the fourth quarter.

Tulane (1-1) built a 17-14 halftime on big plays sandwiched around a 22-yard field goal by Brad Palazzo.

P.J. Franklin ran the opening kickoff back 51 yards and Toney Converse scored two plays later on a 46-yard run.

Shaun King hit JuJuan Dawson with a 78-yard touchdown pass with 5:25 left in the half.

King was 16-of-28 for 257 yards and a touchdown, but had three passes intercepted.

Wood’s last two TDs pushed the Rice lead to 27-17 and Scott Grimes added a 22-year field goal to give the Owls a 13-point lead.

Tulane, which hasn’t opened 2-0 since 1975, got its final touchdown with 5:57 left in the game on a 6-yard run by O’Kie Woods.
