Governor Pete Ricketts highlights goals for upcoming legislative session
LINCOLN - With Nebraska’s Legislative session beginning Wednesday Governor Pete Ricketts has highlighted a few topics he is pushing for.
During Ricketts’ radio call in show Monday he said a bill he’s been working on that will be introduced by Senator Tom Brewer of Gordon is a 50 percent tax cut on military retirement benefits.
“It will expand the current exemptions and now apply to every veteran. It will include those who retired before 2012 and our National Guard folks. This bill is a way to say thank you to our military members.”
Ricketts said another bill proposal will be the Nebraska Talent Scholarships program that will provide $4,000-per-year scholarships for four-year students and two-year students studying in a high demand field.
He said the program for four-year colleges will start with 250 scholarships in its first year, at a cost of about $1 million. Community colleges will get 65 scholarships, at a cost of $260,000 in its first year.
Ricketts also said he will host his State of the State Address next Tuesday at 10 A.M.
