Health officials: Number of flu deaths has climbed to 112
HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) — State health officials say the number of flu deaths has climbed to 112.
WFSB-TV reports that the Department of Public Health reported that the number of deaths increased by seven within the past week.
The department says there are still several more weeks to go in this flu season and it urged residents to take precautions to prevent contracting or spreading the flu.
Flu activity has already peaked in the state, but it still remains high and widespread.
Nearly 2,300 people were hospitalized with confirmed cases of flu between late August and Saturday.
The majority of people who died from the flu were seniors.
