Melania Trump on team LeBron: Darcy cartoon
CLEVELAND, Ohio -- President Trump ended his racist tweet attacking CNN’s Don Lemon and Lebron James with the line “I Like Mike.” Melania Trump responded with a “I like LeBron!” statement issued by the office of the First Lady.
After watching a rerun of Lemon’s interview with James, Trump tweeted:
“LeBron James was just interviewed by the dumbest man on television, Don Lemon. He made Lemon look smart, which is easy to do. I like Mike!”
Lemon interviewed James in conjunction with the opening of a school in Akron that The LeBron James Family Foundation created in partnership with Akron Public Schools.
In the CNN interview, James took issue with President Trump using sports to divide people, when James saw it as a vehicle to bring people together.
Lemon asked James, “What would you say to the president if he were sitting right here?” James replied, “I would never sit across from him” but he said he would sit across from Barack Obama.
With James referencing Obama, it wouldn’t have been surprising if Trump had also suggested LeBron and Lemon were born in Kenya, in his tweet.
The following day, the office of first lady Melania Trump issued a statement dunking on President Trump by commending LeBron for his efforts on behalf of children.
“It looks like Lebron James is working to do good things on behalf of our next generation and just as she always has , the First Lady encourages everyone to have an open dialogue about issues facing children today.
As you know, Mrs. Trump has traveled the country and world talking to children about their well-being, healthy living, and the importance of responsible online behavior with her Be Best initiative.
Her platform centers around visiting organizations, hospitals and schools, and she would be open to visiting the I Promise School in Akron.”
Michael Jordan also issued his own “I like LeBron” statement. “I support LJ. He’s doing an amazing job for his community.”
“Who’s the real dummy?” Lemon asked in a tweet. “A man who puts kids in classrooms or one who kids in cages? #BeBest”
In his philanthropic efforts, James has already spent millions of dollars to help kids and has committed to spending millions more in his school partnership and other work his foundation is doing.
How many millions of your tax dollars has President Trump spent in his self-created family separation crises? Hundreds of kids, who the Trump administration has traumatized, still remain separated from their parents.
It was ignorant for Trump to slam one of Ohio’s most admired sons just before coming to Ohio campaign for Troy Balderson, as he struggles to hold off a challenge from Danny O’Connor in today’s 12th district special election.
Blowing the racist dog whistle as often as Trump does, is a true sign of ignorance and insecurity.
If Melania ever wants to troll her husband, she just has to put on a LeBron jersey and rain jacket with the message “I Promise I really do care about the LeBron school, do u?”
