Clay Pot with 14th Century Silver Coins Dug up in Iran

NICOSIA, Cyprus (AP) _ A clay pot containing more than 1,000 14th century silver coins has been dug up in southern Iran, the official Iranian new sagency said Tuesday.

The Islamic Republic News Agency, monitored in Nicosia, said experts have not yet put a value on the coins which bear the name of Shahshoja and Islamic writing in the distinctively angular Kufic Arabic script.

Shahshoja was a Persian king who ruled for 26 turbulent years in the 14th century.

IRNA did not say when the discovery was made or give the exact location of the treasure.

It only said municipality bulldozers dug out the pot in the main street of a small southern provincial town during construction work.
