What the latest polls show:
President Clinton’s approval rating has been on the increase since his State of the Union speech on Tuesday. Americans remain divided on whether they think the president had an affair and tried to cover it up.
An increasing number of people think Whitewater prosecutor Kenneth Starr has overstepped his bounds and that he has a partisan agenda. More than half disapprove of his methods and think he’s gone too far in his investigation of the president.
The majority of Americans polled believe the media have spent too much time covering the allegations and should stop reporting on the private sex lives of political figures.
A Washington Post found 61 percent believe Clinton will be remembered more for the allegations about his personal life than about his accomplishments.
