Police: Mother Arrested Because Baby Drunk at Birth
WAYNESVILLE, Mo. (AP) _ A woman was charged with second-degree assault and child endangerment after she gave birth to an intoxicated baby.
″I have heard of crack babies and babies with drug-type addictions because of a mother’s problem with drugs, but I can’t say I’ve heard of a criminal case that has arisen from a similar situation,″ said Prosecuting Attorney David Gregory Warren.
Lisa Pindar, 24, was arrested Friday and was being held in lieu of $20,000 bond.
At her son’s birth Nov. 6, he had a blood-alcohol level above 0.10 percent, the legal definition of intoxication in Missouri, police said. The baby was full term and weighed 4 pounds, 8 ounces.
Warren said doctors believed the alcohol seriously endangered the child’s health.
The infant and Pindar’s two other children were taken into custody by the Division of Family Services.
