Pa. Juvenile Detention Counselor Killed
GROVE CITY, Pa. (AP) _ A counselor was killed at a juvenile detention center early Monday, and authorities were searching for two missing teenagers who had been held there, state police said.
The boys were not immediately charged in the man’s death, though police said they believe their escape and the killing were related.
Counselor Wayne Lamont Urey Jr., 43, was killed shortly after midnight at the George Junior Republic juvenile detention center, about 50 miles north of Pittsburgh.
At about the same time, Anthony Machicote, 17, of Pittsburgh, and Jeremy Melvin, 16, of McKeesport, escaped from the center, police said. State Trooper Robert Lagoon said authorities believe the teens were driving Urey’s pickup truck.
