Falcon swoops into Financial District, prompts NYPD response
NEW YORK (AP) — The denizens of New York City’s Wall Street were joined by a wayward falcon apparently looking to make his presence known in the Financial District.
The falcon swooped into lower Manhattan on Wednesday, and confounded New York Police Department officers’ efforts to capture it by flying away as police cordoned the area. The New York Post reports a specialist with the Cornell University Lab of Ornithology identified the bird’s species as a young peregrine falcon.
Doorman Ricardo Gibbons says people were surprised that the falcon flew off as police officers attempted to capture it in a cage, because he thought it was sick or injured.
Coffee cart owner Dalia Abdullah says he gave the bird four strips of bacon because it looked hungry.
